Chile and Climate Change Credit: The Nation "Severe drought and a privatized water system have left small growers high and dry. (The Nation)" This is Chile's Warming Stripes In Chile, there are many affects caused by climate change. According to Columbia Education, they state clearly, "the impacts of climate change have now become an issue of profound concern on numerous fronts, from melting glaciers to conflicts over water rights between big agriculture, businesses and small farmers". This can show that not only is this becoming a problem for their environment, but for their businesses as well. According to "The Nation", they state, "These farmers constitute the first documented case of internal displacement in Chile due to climate change, according to the United Nations. Other towns are emptying out as the drought drags on". This can truly explain how this is changing Chile's history. On another note, sea level rise has also

Coastal Erosion in Chile Credit : Science Direct When researching, Chile happens to be a country that is in third place when experiencing the amount of coastal erosion that they do. As an article from "Sustainability " states, "In the last decades, coastal storms have triggered unprecedented erosion rates and structural damage in several cities along the Chilean coastline [30]. The effects of these events have sometimes been aggravated by earthquakes, which in turn trigger tsunamis and changes in land elevation". Credit : Science Direct This photo from Science direct can also show the amount of coastal erosion between two different beaches in Chile. On another note, there are many ways to help prevent this. As FEMA states, "Seawalls, revetments, bulkheads, groins and breakwaters may reduce erosion in the short-term". Another source named "Seawall Professionals of Florida" states, "Strategic planting of vegetation can be used to

Extreme Weather in Chile Credit: CNBC This photo is of a place in Chile, reports say that South American countries have been breaking record with heatwaves in August. As CNBC states, "Chile’s national weather agency said several weather stations nationwide recorded temperatures over 35 degrees Celsius at the start of the month". This means that the temperature was 101 degrees which is definitely out of the ordinary for Chile. The news station CNBC also states, "A study published last month found that the heatwaves baking vast swathes of North America, Europe and Asia in July would have been “virtually impossible” without the human-induced climate crisis. Scientists say the extreme weather sweeping across the globe reaffirms the urgency of cutting greenhouse gas emissions as quickly and deeply as possible". This is basically explaining that without climate change, our planet would not have been able to do this normally. It is only happening because of the green

Credit: CTV NEWS Landslides in Chile tend to be a little common due to the excessive amounts of earthquakes on a daily basis. Just recently, on August 23rd, a landslide in Vina Del Mar occurred because of heavy rains. It was the dangerous and pounding rains that caused this great landslide. In turn, according to Reuters, they state that, "More than 26,000 people remain cut off from basic services and almost 34,000 have been evacuated, according to the Chilean disaster agency Senapred. Some 38,000 are without electricity in the affected area that is home to rural farming communities." This is detrimental because the president had to call a state of catastraphe. Mudflows can also be very common as well because of their heavy rains. Due to climate change, scientists also believe that Chile will start experiencing more commonly, wildfires, and extreme weather. More rainfall and tsunamis are now to be expected. Due to the amount of earthquakes in Chile, rockfalls are s

Blog Week 5 Chile's Volcanic Activity CREDIT : ABC NEWS https://abcnews.go.com/International/chile-volcanic-eruption-sends-lava-shooting-sky/story?id=29345770 According to Chile Culture, they states, "About 500 volcanoes are potentially active, 36 are currently active and 44 have erupted at least once since 1820. The most historically active volcanoes in the north of Chile are: Lascar, San Pedro, Guallatiri and Isluga." This is interesting because California only has 7 volcanoes. Being that 90% of all volcanic activity occurs in the ring of fire, this is why Chile has had 15 volcanic eruptions in the last 20 years. Getting onto my next point, there are many ways that the citizens of Chile prepare for this. Starting off with a disaster supply kit, the U.S. Embassy in Chile helps me to explain that the citizens in Chile should follow a list of all of the recommendations to have in their own D.I.Y. disaster supply kit. Such things can include water, batteries, food, and muc

WEEK 3 Credit : European Southern Observatory information@eso.org. “Seismic Hazard in Chile.” Www.Eso.Org, https://www.eso.org/public/images/earthquake-01_cc/. Accessed 10 Sept. 2023. Chile has many earthquakes. sometimes even a few in a day! they have a lot of activity going on in their country when talking about earthquakes and this is because they are on top of the South American plate, the Nazca plate moves eastwards into this plate at about 6.6 centimeters a year! This causes large and small earthquakes to happen all the time. Even today, September 10th, at 11:55 am, there was an earthquake with the magnitude of 4.6! However, that is their normal, I would say to think about your decision on traveling there if your are afraid of earthquakes. On another thought, one of the many ways to help the magnitudes of these earthquakes on a daily basis not have such a great affect on the people, they have come up with extreme building techniques. As a company named Verisk, which

Since Chile is a long and skinner country, its length is 2,653 miles and its maximum width is only about 217 miles. Since the country's length is fairly long, there are many climates ranging from tropical deserts to a subantarctic tip, this country experiences many types of natural events. From extreme summer droughts, earthquakes, winter storms, and tsunamis, the people of this country have experi
